The Dodgy Church
This was the name we gave to the Chelsea Methodist Church, next to the Chelsea Pools where we went swimming. We called it so because it always had bald men smoking outside its entrance. As twelve year-olds at a London private school, we probably didn't have the most politically-correct sensibilities.
The Dodgy Arabic Café
Next to the Dodgy Church was an Arabic café called 'Bye-Bye London'. Given how terrorist attacks had been in the news recently, we took the café's name to be somewhat forboding. The café has since closed down, but London has continued as usual.
The Dodgy Game
A favourite pastime of ours whilst on school buses was to point out anyone on the street we thought looked dodgy. If we saw a dog, we point point it out and say "doggy!".
Crawling Under the Bus Seats
Another favourite of ours was to take our seatbelts off, and jump across the aisle into the seat next to us and in front. The aim was to reach as far as possible up to the front of the bus without the teacher noticing. Another tactic was to slide underneath the bus seats, which always gave the people in front quite the surprise.
